The pronoun word is the most useful part of Thai grammar, therefore it is important that you know how to address yourself and other people.
To introduce yourself, we will use the “Personal pronoun” บุรุษสรรพนาม (bù-rùd sàb-pá-naam)
Each word is used for different situations depending on who you are talking to and the situation you are in.
Let’s start with “ฉัน” (chăn), ฉัน (chăn), which is the word for “I”, can be used in more informal situations or in daily conversations, like when talking to people of the same age or someone younger than you. “ฉัน” (chăn) can only be used by women!
For example:
ฉันกำลังเรียนการใช้ภาษาไทยเบื้องต้นกับครูวีอยู่
chăn gam-lang riian gaan chái paa-săa Thai bêuuang dtôn gàb Kru Vee yùu
“เค้า” (káo) is the word for “he” or “she”
“เรา” (rao) is the word for “we”
Can be use when you’re talking with your friend or younger people, It’s used in non formal situation and used for both male and female
For example:
เค้าชอบกินอาหารไทยมาก
káo chôb gin aa-hăan Thai mâak
“ผม” (pŏm)
which is only used for male, is used in formal situations because it is more polite. It is the word for “I”.
For example:
วันนี้ผมขอลาป่วย 1 วันนะครับคุณครู
wan níi pŏm kŏr laa bpùuay nèung wan ná kráb kun kru
“ดิฉัน” (dì-chăn) is the same way to use as “ผม” (pŏm) but “ดิฉัน” (dì-chăn) is used for Female
For example:
ดิฉันกำลังจะไปเที่ยวที่ประเทศไทยอาทิตย์หน้า ขออนุญาติลากิจ 3 วันค่ะ
dì-chăn gam-lang jà bpai tîieow tîi bprà-têd Thai aa tíd nâa · kŏr à-nú yâad laa gìd săam wan kâ
