Quantifiers in Thai

To improve your grammar, let’s learn a few quantifiers, which is called ‘ลักษณะนาม’ (lák-sà-nà naam)


You can use this structure to use quantifiers in your sentence

“Object + quantity + quantifer”


But you must remember that the quantifier depends on the noun.


For example :

ฉันเอาซาลาเปาไส้ครีม 2 ลูก (chăn ao saa-laa-bpao sâi kreem sŏng lûuk) 

= I wants 2 of custard steamed buns.


ฉันมีปากกาอยู่ 5 แท่งในกระเป๋า (chăn mii bpàak gaa yòo hâa tâaeng nai grà-bpăo)

= I have 5 pens in my pencil case 



ลูก (lûuk)
 for example : grapes, mountains, steamed buns, balls
ใบ (bai)
 for example : glass, leaf, ticket, bag, pillow, bucket
แท่ง (tâeng)for example : pencil, gold, ice cream stick, lipstick, chocolate bar
เล่ม (lêm)               for example : book, candle, scissors, knife, pin
แผ่น (pàaen) for example : paper, CD, board, tile

ตัว (dtua)

for example : animals, clothes, guitar, elevator, camera
ด้าม (dâam)for example : pen, paintbrush, toothbrush
ชิ้น (chín)

for example : cake, meat, cookies
